Supporting local breeders is one of my key goals, which is why I want to offer seed makers a chance to break into the market and have their work seen, grown and enjoyed by others. Even if you’ve only got a few strains to offer, if you’ve done the work and honestly believe you’re giving growers a positive experience, proliferate it! Applicants must meet some basic requirements however, as we do take the grower’s experience very seriously.
Non-negotiable. Every breeder needs to first test their gear before trying to sell it. There is no way to know how genes will combine in the progeny, and selling untested seeds causes headaches for seedbanks and breeders alike. We expect you to have tested at minimum 8 plants of each strain to ensure reasonable intersex trait rates (limited herm potential) and ensure quality across the population.
If you’re claiming to be using something like OG Kush or Girl Scout Cookies (or any other clone-only elites), you need to be able to back that up. Unfortunately, many local growers are working with white label genetics and renamed strains, thinking they have the real cut. We want to be that layer that sits between the customer and the seeds, reducing the chances of falling into marketing traps. This might seem over the top, but at the core of our ethos is the concept of preserving provenance and this is essential in achieving that.
I don’t want to shun outdoor breeders, their work is often outstanding. However, there are some things one needs to consider when discussing provenance and outdoor breeding – contaminated pollination. Contaminated pollination occurs when other male plants or hermaphrodites pollinate the mother plant alongside the desired pollen donor. This results in progeny with varying genetic makeup depending on the seed you plant.
To compensate for this, we will simply add a one-liner on your strain descriptions noting that the pollination was done in an open environment.
Seed Stash is a grassroots project with preservation and proliferation at its core – so we rely on using a consignment model. We keep it simple. You send us seeds – we sell and promote them through our store. You get paid at the end of every month based on your sales and what doesn’t sell gets sent back to you at our expense every 12 months.
