Strawberries & Cream (Exotic Genetics) – Strain Review
Breeder: Exotic GeneticsÂ
Lineage: Strawberry x Cookies & Cream
Grown: ~2020
Flowering Time: 65-75 Days
Summary
Strawberries & Cream is a strain bred by Exotic Genetix. The lineage is listed as Strawberry x Cookies and Cream. A hash-makers dream, Strawberries & Cream has great returns with flavours that range from cherry syrup to Nesquick strawberry milk.
GROW REVIEW
Growing out Strawberries and Cream, the plants all looked great from the start, throwing large fan leaves and healthy growth.
When flipped into flower, phenotype variation became more pronounced, with most of the population staying small and squat. These plants tended to have significantly sweeter terps than the taller plants. They carried a lineage cherry/strawberry profile, think Tangie but sweet red berries.
The plant that stood out to me, however, was the #6 - which was much taller, more vigorous, but less sweet. Instead, she is a lactonic cut that closest aligns with Strawberry Nesquick. This cut is currently being used for flower and hash production by Creme & Amadeadly.
BREEDING REPORT
Even if breeding is driven by selections, more than genetics themselves, I bred and tested a few Strawberries and Cream hybrids that I made using my #6 selection.
Crossed with Headbanger, I found hermaphrodite traits in a lot of the progeny. However, when I popped an OG hybrid, there was good stability across the population, and today I still have two "Strawberry Fuel" selections from that hybrid.
SMOKE REPORT
Strawberries and Cream has a lot going for it, as a strain - there were more than enough good selections to make. But the smoke is a little divisive, providing more moderate effects, making it a solid day smoke, but perhaps a bit boring for seasoned smokers looking to get their ass kicked.
Aromas range from sweet syrupy cherry concentrate, to various strawberry/cherry/berry blends. Outlier phenotypes are more muted and lactonic, with more depth, but less sweetness.
Although not as dark as some of today's popular strains, Strawberries and Cream expresses with common tints of pink and purple in the flower, some more colourful than others. Trichome coverage varies a lot between phenotypes. Plants which lean more towards Strawberry have shorter trichome stocks and have a volatile trichome head. The taller phenotypes (presumably leaning towards Cookies and Cream) have significantly sandier trichomes which tend to be longer and look more visually appealing.
Flavours were decent, but not outstanding in the flower form. The sweeter phenotypes tended to have more flavour at the top end, but I preferred the milky Strawberry Nesquick of the #6, which felt more unique.
If you're looking for a productive high, this is a great strain - but don't expect it to lay you out. Across all phenotypes, I found almost every plant to have uplifting, but non-sedating effects. It quickly became our household "day smoke".
