Face on Fire (Archive Seeds)
Breeder: Archive Seeds
Lineage: Wifi 43 x Face Off OG
Grown: 2020
Flowering Time: 63-70 Days
Summary
Face on Fire gives an amazing representation of OG Kush. The Face Off OG in the cross provides a sweet candied gas profile while the Wifi #43 adds a depth and earthiness. Having run dozens of OG hybrids through the years, this remains one of my favourites. Expect frosty dense nugs which permeate a variety of kushy fuel, sweetness and pine. Potent, uplifting stuff!
GROW REVIEW
I started with a pack of Archive's 12 seed regs, from which I got 8 healthy plants. A painful 5 of which were males, leaving 3 females to be flowered out. Not the greatest population size to run through, to be honest. But sometimes you don't need a lot to find fire, and that was the case here.
Going into flower, the #1 was significantly taller than the #2 and #3, with spear colas. The branching was strong, thick and needed little staking efforts. She yielded well and had more neutral earthy fuel terps.Â
The #2 cut was the exact opposite. It was a squat, branchy and spindly plant - classic OG morphology to it. Even the flowers were significantly more golf-ball like than the #1. She was a nightmare to keep staking, but the result was worth it. She finished with a sweet, candied citrus fuel nose.
The third pheno was a balanced blend between the two. She had more lateral branching than the #1, but also significantly more manageable than the #1. A mix of earthy fuel and sweet citrus.
Editor's Note: There have been several Face on Fire cuts that have gone around South Africa. Some seem legit, while others seem to be renames. Purple phenotypes seem unusual given the lineage, but have been reported.
SMOKE REPORT
This is where the Face on Fire really shines. If you're a fan of that original OG blend of earthiness, pine and citrus fuel - you're going to love these. With the Face Off OG bringing additional mouth coating and sweetness, it's easy to see why so many breeders have since used Face on Fire in their Lines.
Varies between selections, but largely classic OG Kush with some added sweetness. Citrus was present in all of my plants, but ranged from a muted earthy citrus with mostly fuel, like the #1 - to a sweet tropical citrus scent found in the #3. Overall, Face on Fire finds a nice balance in authenticate OG traits and those that casual smokers will appreciate (gas can be polarizing).
The terps were strongest at harvest and I personally prefer OG straight off the plant. There's a lot of sharp fuel profiles that seem to be most potent in the first few weeks in the jar, but then soften substantially over time (likely volatile terpenes).
Bag appeal at harvest was strong, particularly on the #1 - but as with most true OGs, the time in the jar will impact your bag appeal.
I got some of the classic yellowing of the nugs after 3 to 4 weeks of cure.
Trichome coverage was good, but with mostly quite short trichome stalks, reducing how appealing it looks in the jar. But this isn't exactly a strain I'd want to grow if I was targeting bag appeal as a primary focus.
Out-fucking-standing. The #1 was perhaps a little mediocre, with not as much nuance. But the #2 and #3 were great. The #2 was the most flavourful (the squat pheno).Â
When Fletch from Archive described the Face Off OG's "sweet gummy" profile, I wasn't sure what that even meant. But after smoking this strain a lot clicked into place of what I was looking for in a plant.
The mouth coating on the #2 was exceptional, sticking to one's gums and tongue for ages, with a lingering sweetness.
The smoke on some of these girls weren't for everyone though - with hard hitting, thick smoke with lung expansion that will get a lot of novice smokers coughing up a lung.
Potency was reliable across all phenotypes, the #1 seemed a little more of a hard hitter than the rest.Â
What makes the smoke so great from these, is that they carry that distinct, and personal favourite effect of euphoria and relaxation combined together.
